Hamelsworde brewery is a small family owned brewery which is housed in the rear of a small brewery Tap on Kirkby Road, Hemsworth, Pontefact. The 2 1/2 barrel brewery now brews Hand-Crafted Ales which supply our own tap, local pubs and beer festivals.

Brewer Dan Jones was a keen home brewer for 15 years and has spent his time perfecting recipes prior to the launch of Hamelsworde Brewery in April 2013. The time spent perfecting recipes was rewarded when the first beer, Colin Brown Ale, won the award for Best Strong Beer at Doncaster Ale festival in it's very first outing.

Haley's Comet was then featured in the Yorkshire Evening Post as the Beer of the Week.

Initially the brewery operated from a 1 barrel kit in the garage of the family home. It was a installed in April 2013 and Dan began scaling up the recipes from the 50 litre Homebrew kit that Dan started with.

Once Dan was happy with the core range of beers, he began to widen the range that appear regularly, to include a best bitter, Hemsworth Challenger and a ever-changing blonde, Pacific Blonde. Both have been well received with Pacific Blonde disappearing from shelves quickly.

May 2014 saw the launch of the Mining Range of beers which includes Blacklegs Stout, Lamplight - Coffee and Walnut Porter and Smokestacks Smoked porter.

The brewery tap opened in May 2015 and continues the ethos which was created when the brewery was launched. Using local produce and doing things a little differently. Local beers and ciders appear in rotation on the bar as well as locally sourced food for functions, afternoon teas and Sunday Pie and peas. The environment is relaxed, friendly and welcoming. Rebecca has taken to her new role as landlady with gusto and greets customers by name, making recommendations to newcomers and giving tasters to those who aren't sure. An extensive gin and whisky selection have been added to the bar as well as a "Prosecco" tap on the bar (it can't be called Prosecco as it is sold in a 20 litre keg and Prosecco can only be sold in bottles!)

In September 2015, brewing was moved to it's new home at our Tap, and the brewery was replaced with a larger, two and a half barrel, brewery to cope with the additional demand.

We now host regular quiz nights (last Thursday of the month) meet the Brewers, the next one being Geeves on 7th April. Tickets are available from the tap for £10 and include 6 third pint tasters and pie and peas. More information about all our functions are on our Facebook page and website www.hamelsworde.co.uk

Hamelsworde beers appear up and down the country at Beer festivals and in pubs all over the north of England with further expansion in the pipeline.
